In-House Role: Graphic Designer at Educational Experience, Newcastle NSW
Featured Project: 2020 Learning Resource Catalogue
Educational Experience (Edex) supplied educational resources and children’s furniture to the early years sector. The primary sales tool was a 900-page learning resource catalogue produced annually featuring approximately 8,000 – 10,000 products, with a 3-month turn-around timeframe. This project required some serious collaboration amongst our small design team together with the marketing team and sourcing specialists. My role was to design the marketing piece that makes up the first eight pages of the catalogue as well as layout five out of the sixteen sections. This also included product photography and scene photography showcasing certain products to create an interesting “invitation to play” scene, which involved collaborating with the sourcing specialist and communications specialist to ensure the scenes aligned with both product delivery and pedagogical models.
During this project a new style position and visual tone was being developed for the Edex brand—steering away from the bright red of the brand and moving towards a more gentle and natural palette. This was subtly incorporated into the catalogue with the new colour palette introduced within the cover and marketing pages, then softer tones of the existing bright section colours being used throughout.
